What you're looking at

Climbing and bucket work. A tree near a house doesn’t get felled. It gets taken apart from the top down, piece by piece, with each section lowered on a rope. That’s what the bucket and the climbing gear are for, and it’s the difference between a removal and a repair bill.

Rigging. The ropes and pulleys you can see set on the trunk are what control where a section lands. Setting rigging properly takes longer than cutting does, and it’s most of the skill in the job.

The felling cut. In open ground a tree can come down whole, and that’s the fastest and cheapest way to do it when there’s room.

Crane work. For tall pines and poplars in tight spots, a crane lifts each section clear rather than lowering it through what’s underneath.

Chipper and grapple. Brush goes through the chipper, trunk sections get lifted out with the skid steer. This is the part that turns a felled tree into an empty yard.

The finished yard. The last photo is the one that matters most to customers, and it’s the thing they mention more than anything else in reviews. When we leave, it’s clean.

The jobs we take

A fair amount of our work is the kind other outfits pass on. Large tulip poplars standing over houses. Trees on the steep ground around Smith Mountain Lake where nothing can be dropped and equipment access is awkward. Storm damage at two in the morning with half a tree hanging.

That work needs rigging, a crane sometimes, and the judgment to know which. Thirty-three years is mostly how you get that.

Most of what you see here is ordinary residential work. A big tree over a normal house is the everyday job, not the exception.
